A Balanced Literacy Program

This website is dedicated to helping educators understand the assessment tool (the running record) used to evaluate children's reading in the Guided Reading program.

The Guided Reading program helps to reduce the number of children that fall below grade level by grouping students for instruction according to their accomplished reading strategies.  According to  Marie Clay (1979) all children will not read or think alike.  With this in mind, educators have embraced the Guided Reading program that meets the needs of individual children and builds on their individual reading strategies.
